Dr. Arthos Lectures
No fake news here, folks! Check your sources!
Extemp allows you to interact with your audience and do things "off the cuff" but still deeply related to your purpose and desired outcome.
Obama: President Obama delivered a powerful rendition of "Amazing Grace" at the funeral of slain Rev. Clementa Pinckney, and called on the country to honor those killed in the South Carolina church massacre. A white male around 21 years of age opened fire on a black church killing mostly old women.
Fred Rogers: He had a prepared speech to read, but when he understood that his audience was not interested in hearing it, he had to change his plans and make up his speech as he went along.
Perspective Speech (Speech 1)
Present information from both sides of an arugment. Actually, it is simple-minded to think that an issue has only two sides. Do not fall for the Pro-Con trap which can narrow one's thinking. However, the Pro-Con mindset can lead you to THE essential question, the crux, the stasis of the argument.
For your second speech, you will have to pick a side. Make sure you pick an issue that is important, relavant, and currently being debated.
The website below has some interesting as well as boring topics. This may help you get some ideas.
Invitational Speech (Speech 2)
Invite your audience to consider your point of view. This is not a "beat up your opponent with facts" speech. Anyone can find facts. It takes a mastermind to change someone's mind. To do that you must genuinely address their concerns and skepticism. Think from the opposing view and truly address their points. Likewise ask them to be "in your shoes."
Transformation (Speech 3 Flip Speech)
Radically change someone's thought habits. Change an ideology. This will be a different topic from your previous speeches.
