$142 Student Recycling Leadership Corps Program

Student Recycling Leadership Corps Program

The IRC is seeking Indiana high school sophomores to apply for the Student Recycling Leadership Corps program, powered by Recycle Rally.

The Student Recycling Leadership Corps is an opportunity for Indiana high school students to grow the impact of K-12 recycling programs and away-from-home recycling by facilitating the Recycle Rally  program in their schools and implementing public space recycling projects in their communities.
Students accepted into the Leadership Corps are required to complete a two-year commitment during their Junior and Senior years of high school. Students will gain leadership skills, work experience and a $500 scholarship upon completion of the program. The goal of the Leadership Corps is to engage Student Leaders across Indiana in recycling initiatives in their communities, building the next generation of recycling champions. Through Student Leader reporting, the IRC will tally the amount of material recycled by weight and/or volume from each student project.
Recycle Rally is a nationwide school recycling program designed to raise awareness among K-12 students about the importance of recycling and encourage them to take action and make recycling part of their lives. This program aims to take K-12 school recycling programs to the next level, expanding to more schools across the nation, and offering new opportunities for involvement. Through the program, schools earn rewards, gain access to educational tools and connect to a national recycling effort.

1. The Cougar Choir is a newly formed, all student choir. There two concerts every year, winter and spring. We do a variety of challenging music including classics, folk songs, Broadway, and popular music. This year, we sang in the IUK concert band's Halloween concert, participated in an on campus coffee shop, and joined with freshman in a flash-mob during the holiday season. Students may participate in choir as an activity, and they can take choir as a class for credit. During the fall semester, we formed a small group, the IUK Harmonics. There are fourteen students in this group, and they have the opportunity to sing for special occasions such as the Holiday Donor's Party and Peru High School's choral festival.

2. A student should prepare for this audition as they prepare for ISSMA. Plan to sing an art song, as is appropriate for ISSMA. It is preferable students bring their own accompanist. If an accompanist is not available, our choir accompanist will be available to play. Dress as you would for ISSMA. Students will be asked to write down their experience in choir and other musical activities. There will be a room available to warm up. Some are earmarked specifically for current hotel employees and others for minorities. A few have minimum GPA requirements, while others are open to full or part-time students. All require enrollment in a hospitality management degree program.

Is it worth my time?
More than $860,000 is budgeted in 2016 to award to a few hundred hospitality management students. Scholarships range from $500 to $6,000, and unlike a loan, that money never needs to be paid back. It only takes a few minutes to apply. Wouldn't you say it's worth your time?

How will I be evaluated?
We don't judge applications solely based on GPA or financial need. We also review academics, hospitality work experience, extracurricular/professional activities, and honors, as well as personal attributes that you outline in your essay.

AH&LEF not only helps pay for school - we help build your career.
Scholarship recipients receive a free year of student membership to the American Hotel & Lodging Association. Additionally, our alumni can join a community that helps them network, advance, and gain visibility in the industry.
